Ooh a new twist on the electric rate scam and possibly one less scammer.

{Voice prompt message}
“This is an apology call from your utility supplier, you have been overcharged, press 1 to get a rebate.”

Me: Hello
Caller: Hello Sir, you have been overcharged and we would like to send you the refund.
{Caller says in a thick foreign accent}
Me: How much?
Caller: Please confirm your utility bill account for me.
Me: How much?
Caller: Do you have a copy of your electric bill.
Me: I’m online right now looking at my account. I don’t see anything about being overcharged.
Caller: The system is wrong.
Me: What
Caller: The computer lies.
Me: Really
Caller: Yes Sir, the system is inaccurate and that is why we are calling you.
Me: Again how much is the refund?
Caller: $110
Me: I don’t need a check, just apply it to my account.
Caller: We can’t do that.
Me: Sure you can.
Caller: This is an overpayment, if we apply it to the account then you will still have an overpayment.
Me: Yes, I owe $200 on my next bill so $110 can be credited to my account then I only have to pay $90
Caller: No Sir, we need your account information to send check.
Me: I don’t want a check, I want you to credit my account.
{Caller starts to stutter and go off script}
Me: First day huh?
Caller: What Sir
Me: You are stuttering which means you have no idea what to say next.
Caller: Sir, can I have your account number.
Me: Nah, but I will give you some advice…if you want people to believe in your scam you really need to be more confident.
Caller: Thank you Sir, but I don’t like this job and I hope I get fired soon.
Me: Me too.

{this was the first scam call where the caller showed any type of remorse
