I’ve just become YOAST’s Public Enemy #1!
Yep the creator of the SEO WordPress plug-in that seems to have everyone wooed but me has threatened to come hunt me down if I don’t stop telling people about how much I dislike their plugin.
I suppose when you say, “in my opinion” followed by ways you feel the product doesn’t live up to it’s claims doesn’t bode well with certain people. Yep, I know the old saying…”opinions are like a-holes…everyone has one”. Look, we live in an age where not everyone is going to like you, your product or your service…it’s a personal choice. And yes, we can be “a-holes” about it. But, to go around and threaten people who tell others why they don’t like you is a bit much.
Now, if instead of the “hunting down part” he said…”Rob, I see you’re not too happy about our product, how can we make it better?” Probably would have gone a lot further to appease me and possibly convince me to give their product another try…but alas…life goes on. I’d better go into hiding now.
But before I go find a cave to live the rest of my life in…
You’re probably wondering what I suggest to use if not the Yoast SEO plugin?
Well, I’ll tell you.
I prefer for simplicity All In One SEO (AIOSEO). The features that are included in my opinion make optimizing a website so much easier and faster. And, when it comes to sharing your site on social media AIOSEO has a component that lets you select how the post shows up. Yep, you can change the picture, the title and description to be different on social media than what might show up on the search engines.
But here’s the thing…regardless if you use Yoast or AIOSEO you should really understand the purpose and power of optimizing your website pages with the right Meta Titles, Descriptions and Keywords. Just because you put a plugin on your WordPress site doesn’t mean diddly-squat if it’s not filled in properly.
If you need help with SEO I would highly recommend you read “Optimize This: How Two Carpet Cleaners Consistently Beat Web Designers On The Search Engines” coauthored by Rob Anspach (that’s me) and Paul Douglas.
Anyway…I’m off to find some survival gear and some cave decorations and hopefully a wifi connection so I can continue to help fantastic clients like YOU understand online marketing, SEO, social media and trust creation!
