When I receive random friend request and the person wanting to be my friend has no friends in common with me, red flags go up.
It tends to be a scam of some sort.
I ask questions.
I want to know if the person knows me and how they know me or if they were referred by someone, or perhaps they read one of my books and wants to connect.
Unfortunately, 90% of the time, the person sending a friend request doesn’t really know you, they are just trying to scam you.
A Mohammad Dastmalchi sent me a friend request. And before I accepted his invitation to be my friend, I sent him a chat message.
As expected…it didn’t take long for Mohammad to begin the scam.
Below is my exchange with Mohammad. (I’m the blue, Mohammad is the gray)
The moment you send your name, date of birth, address, phone number and identity card is the moment Mohammed starts the ball rolling on getting richer. Oh, yeah. The scam works because you fell for the allure of free money. And Mohammed is banking on that.
Oh, and there is no money waiting for you. None at all.
But with Mohammed having your information he can then access your credit report, take credit out in your name and basically make it hard for you to obtain credit when needed.
So not only do you never see a dime from that supposed “dead family member you never knew” you lose what money you currently have in a scam.
Sadly, Mohammed knows about numbers…he’s banking on this scam working on somebody….the odds are in his favor.
Mohammed knows that the gullibility of people…he’s studied the science of this scam.
It works for him.
And, it works for many scammers too.
There are deviations of this scam going back decades.
And people still fall for it.
If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
Don’t fall these scams.
Do you due diligence.
My advice: If you get a friend request from someone you don’t know, with zero friends in common, don’t accept. If you get an email or chat message from someone saying a deceased relative you never met has money tied up in a foreign bank and they are requesting your help…just delete it.
