I am not a robot.
Yeah, that little box you have to click on most website forms to say that you are human is now being exploited by spammers.
Well, for the last hour I’ve been reinforcing the security protocols on a client’s site to eliminate the spam problem.
Yeah, I even got up early (6am) to tackle the problem.
I know what you’re thinking…”that’s dedication”.
Well, fighting spam as been around as long as the internet and sadly somedays it feels like it’s a no win situation.
But now there are many programs that can adjust filters, add geo-location tags and change the way your site is accessed by outsiders.
With each new security program, plugin or protocol we employ, we hope that that will keep the spammers at bay. It won’t stop them. But it might make it harder for them to spam the sites. The harder you make your website a target for spammers, the chances are they will move on to easier targets.
Unfortunately, adding all those options to the site makes it harder for consumers to leave messages. They have to click through captchas, prove they are not a robot and do math or click an image to prove they are worthy.
