Rob, I thought it was generally accepted that you shouldn’t be posting organic content on platforms like Facebook every day due to the small amount of reach?
Me: Wow, seriously? So how is NOT posting helping with reach then? Let’s say, only 2% of your audience at any one time see your posts on Facebook, by posting at least once a day you help ensure that more of your audience sees your content throughout the week. If you only post 3x a week instead of 7 then you are reducing the amount of times your audience has an opportunity to see your content.
It’s not the first time I’ve been asked that question and probably won’t be the last. And sadly that question came from a person who does social media for others. So you would think they would understand what “reach” truly means and why it’s important to continuously improve the chances of reaching their audience. Yet, most of these so-called social experts are relying on the advice of others and not actually testing to see if the advice they are giving to their clients is true. That’s a true disservice.
Saying “generally accepted” makes it sound like that’s how its supposed to be…I want to know generally accepted by whom? Generally accepted by 1 person, by a dozen, a hundred, a thousand, more…and in what capacity are those generally accepted people conducting themselves? Are they expects in their field? How did they conduct their studies to determine what is and isn’t generally accepted. To me saying generally accepted is just another way of trying to impose your ill-proven methodologies.
