Why do I say, “Don’t Get Hung Up On The Analytics?”

I’ve been teaching Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and social media since 2009 and one of the things that I see people get hung up on is analytics.

They look at the numbers and feel all warm and fuzzy inside, they see that, “Oh I have customers coming from Africa, Europe and The United States, and they’re visiting my site or they’re coming to my social pages.” And that’s all well and good.

The problem with analytics is that is gives you a false sense of the people that are coming to you but are they actually buying from you?

Or are they just window shopping?

That’s the problem with analytics!

You get hung up on the numbers.

Some of those numbers are really spectacular, but they don’t reveal the true nature of what you’re trying to accomplish using SEO or Social tactics…and, that’s trust creation.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, “Money is the byproduct of trust creation“.

Without trust, people aren’t willing to shell out their hard earned money for your products or services.

When you can deliver trust and people see you can be trustworthy, they will buy from you time and time again. And the more they trust you, the higher the sale.

So, analytics may be okay for somethings.

But here’s the bottom line…if you have a million people coming to your sites and you’re excited about those analytics, but only 3 people are buying, does that mean what you are doing sucks?

Three out of a million doesn’t seem like great numbers does it?

What if those 3 people were giving you 10, 20 or 30 thousand a month? Is it worth it? Hell yeah!

So, look at the numbers (the analytics) with a grain of salt, use them as you would like, but, don’t get hung up on them.
