I recently sat down with Ron Lynch for a conversation that, honestly, most marketers today wouldn’t survive.

Not because it was complicated.
But because it stripped away the fluff.

No funnels.
No hacks.
No “7-step AI system to riches.”

Just real talk about what actually works.

And if you’ve been in this game as long as we have… you already know where this is going.

The Difference Between Storytellers… And Pretenders

Ron said something early on that hit hard:

Everything is storytelling.

Doesn’t matter if it’s:

  • A commercial
  • A book
  • A film
  • A sales page

If you don’t understand storytelling… you’re just making noise.

And that’s the problem right now.

Everyone’s copying everyone else.

Same headlines.
Same hooks.
Same “look at me” nonsense.

And then they wonder why nothing converts.

The Biggest Lie In Marketing

Most entrepreneurs believe this:

“I have a great idea… now I just need to sell it.”

Wrong.

Ron broke it down simply:

  • A brilliant idea does not make you rich
  • A brilliant idea that customers see value in and share does

That’s a completely different mindset.

It’s not about extraction.
It’s about addition to someone’s life.

And most people never make that shift.

Why Most Businesses Stay Broke

Here’s where things get uncomfortable.

Entrepreneurs love to say:

“I serve my customer.”

No, you don’t.

You serve multiple customers… and you’re usually only thinking about one.

The one that:

  • Looks like you
  • Thinks like you
  • Already bought from you

Meanwhile, you’re ignoring everyone else who could be paying you.

Nature doesn’t work like that.

Nature duplicates.

Marketing should too.

The Problem With “Looking Busy”

We got into something I see every day.

Businesses trying to do everything:

  • Film
  • Gaming
  • Publishing
  • Events
  • Content
  • Ads
  • Social

And they’re wondering why nothing works.

Ron said it bluntly:

Focus wins. Scattered loses.

I’ve seen it myself.

You don’t need more services.
You need better execution on fewer things.

The Truth About “Getting Lucky”

Everyone wants the win.

Nobody wants the reps.

Ron told a story about a product that took off from something completely unplanned—just raw, real footage that worked.

That’s when it hit:

You don’t get lucky… unless you show up enough times to find it.

Most people quit before that moment ever happens.

Originality Wins. Copies Get Ignored.

This part should be required listening for every “guru” online right now.

Ron said:

The weirdos win.

Not the copycats.
Not the template followers.
Not the “I saw this work for someone else” crowd.

The ones willing to:

  • Look different
  • Sound different
  • Risk being wrong

Those are the ones who break through.

Everyone else?

They’re just background noise.

The Real Sales Process (That Nobody Teaches)

You want to know what actually works?

Not scripts.
Not objection-handling frameworks.

It’s this:

Make it about them.

Ask a question that forces them to think.

Now they’re in the conversation.

Now they’re engaged.

Now they’re selling themselves.

That’s how real sales starts.

Not by talking louder…
But by getting them involved.

AI Isn’t Your Shortcut

We touched on AI too.

And here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear:

AI is a tool. Not a savior.

If your ideas suck…
AI just helps you produce bad content faster.

Ron uses it the right way:

  • Start with a real idea
  • Expand it
  • Refine it

Not the other way around.

Because people can smell synthetic content a mile away.

And they don’t trust it.

Why Most “Successful” Launches Are Fake Wins

This one stings a little.

Ron pointed out how people brag about big launches.

But then…

  • The product doesn’t continue selling
  • Nobody actually uses it
  • It never spreads beyond that initial audience

So what did you really build?

A spike?

Or a business?

The Real Goal Isn’t The Sale

It’s trust.

Always has been.

Always will be.

Because when trust is there:

  • Sales are easier
  • Referrals happen
  • Growth compounds

That’s why, in my own business, I’ve always focused on one thing:

Build trust first. Everything else follows.

Final Thought

This conversation wasn’t about tactics.

It was about thinking differently.

Because at the end of the day:

  • The tools will change
  • The platforms will change
  • The tactics will change

But this won’t:

People buy from those they trust… who make their lives better.

Everything else?

Just noise.
