In 2013 a potential client called wondering how I could help their website rank better on Google.

I told them.

Then gave a quote for optimizing their website.

To which they said my price was too high and then tried to guilt me in to lowering my price.

Nope.

And to be honest my prices were kind of low back then anyway.

Seven years went by.

My prices are higher. And so is my authority as an expert.

In that time I’ve authored, coauthored or produced over 2 dozen books.

Well, now that potential client from long ago wants to talk again.

I gave a price.

Which, incidentally is 4x higher than I quoted all those years prior and what do you know the client agreed to the higher price.

Why?

Without creating authority (being an author, having experience, posting to social) that client would still be trying to lower my rate. You see they didn’t see me as an expert all those years ago, they saw me as someone with zero authority.

Now they are willing to spend 4x more to get an authority to help them.
