I Get This Same LinkedIn Template At Least 10x A Week…
I’m looking to build my network, and came across your profile. I’m a (your industry) with over (some number) years of experience specializing in (what your niche is) for both personal and business clientele. We have a few common connections, and I thought that there could be an opportunity to work together at some point.
Let’s break it down shall we…
“I’m looking to build my network” really means I want as many people following me as humanly possible.
“and came across your profile” means LinkedIn suggested my name and you clicked on the button to connect, you never even took the time to actually look at my profile.
“I’m a (whatever) with over X amount of years of experience” – doesn’t really mean anything in today’s world, heck, you could have gained all your experience the first year and learned nothing since. So all those years of experience mean diddly.
“specializing in personal and business” – just means you aren’t picky and will accept anyone who breathes as a customer.
“We have a few common connections” – means that LinkedIn told them that, they really didn’t even look to see, nor did they ask any of those common connections if I’m a good guy, they just clicked the button to connect and hoped I’d accept.
“and I thought that there could be an opportunity to work together at some point” – yeah right, “could be” is the keyword word…they should just come right out and bloody well say, “there is absolutely no chance in hell we will ever work together, but hey there’s always hope“.
Stop using this overused template, and start learning how to effectively connect using LinkedIn.
