Why people critique books they never read (and what it really means).

So my book just hit #1 New Release in Marketing & Consumer Behavior… for BOTH Kindle and Paperback.

Cool moment, right?

And then… this shows up 👇

A long, thought-out critique about how Disney has “lost its soul,” how corporate ideology ruined the magic, and how companies should go back to Walt’s original vision.

Sounds deep.

Only problem?

👉 It has almost nothing to do with what I actually wrote.

Let me translate what really happened:

He didn’t read the book.
He read the idea of the book… and responded to his own opinion.

This happens more than you think.

People don’t engage with your work…
They engage with what they assume your work says.

And when you hit any level of visibility, you’ll start attracting:

  1. People who buy
  2. People who watch
  3. People who want to sound smart in your comments

Guess which one this was.

Look—I’m all for discussion.
But at least read the material before writing a thesis in the comments.

Otherwise, you’re not critiquing the work…

You’re auditioning for attention.

👉 Real lesson here:

The moment people start confidently critiquing things you didn’t say…

That’s when you know you’ve reached authority.

Carry on.
