Recently a client asked me if they should continue using a service that helps them collect reviews.
I asked how much they were paying for the service.
Then I asked how many reviews they had collected using that service.
Then I asked the most important question…what happens to those reviews when you stop paying?
$180 a month, 400 reviews and I don’t know…were the answers to those questions.
Now the reason I share this with you is twofold…first I want you to realize that collecting reviews doesn’t need to cost you anything. Second, that particular service is not helping you be more credible.
Oh, they have great material on their website that tells you all the benefits you will receive using their service. Fantastic testimonials from around the world from some of the most prestigious companies. Oh yeah very impressive.
But for one thing…
What they do on their website and how they show reviews for the clients they are helping is totally different.
You see…the reviews they collect for others are missing a very crucial credibility building factor.
Yup, all those reviews my client had were all missing one thing… last names. Four hundred reviews and none of them had last names to the reviews.
Mary F, Victor C, Juan K, George S, Harold T, Tommie N, etc.
Those last names are the key to building credibility with your potential prospect. Those looking to learn more about you will read those reviews and look for names they recognize. If Mary Frank left a review and the prospect knows Mary, then that prospect is more inclined to call you as they trust Mary’s words and feel comfortable hiring your service. But Mary F who is that? Could be anyone. And if you live in a big city there could be hundreds of Mary F’s.
Zero credibility.
This is precisely why Google and Facebook are actually more powerful review sites and they are free. They (in most cases) display the first and last name of the person leaving the review, show a picture of that person and when clicked on have a link that goes to their profile.
There is absolutely no reason to pay a service that doesn’t provide full details of the reviews they are collecting for you. None.
Oh and to the question of what happens when you stop paying the service – you lose all those reviews.
