Comcast: Hi Sir, how can we help you?
Me: My internet speeds have been slow the last few days.
Comcast: Sir, may I ask what modem you are using.
Me: The one you issued.
Comcast: And that is?
Me: I have no idea off the top of my head – doesn’t it tell you in my records? I am renting the box from you, so you should have an idea what it is I have.
Comcast: No Sir, I will need to check.
{Me jumping online to my Comcast account – the modem is listed right on my account}
Comcast: Sir are you sure you rent a modem from us.
Me: Yup, I’m looking at my account and it displays the serial number of the modem I rent from you.
Comcast: Could you share that with me?
Me: Do you have my account open on your computer?
Comcast: No Sir.
Me: Well I think that would be helpful don’t you.
Comcast: I’m going to place you on hold while I check.
{And I was disconnected}
{Ten minutes later my internet speeds magically improved}
