It’s June 18th and I’m writing the December daily subscriber emails for my newsletter.
Oh yeah, June, July, Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov are already written and scheduled.
This is not to brag (okay… well, maybe a little).
You see what I’ve noticed from many in the marketing realm…those that teach others seem to be the first people that neglect their own content.
“Oh but I’m too busy helping others, that I just can’t create my own stuff right now, maybe when I slow down” – yup, typical response.
The problem with that response…when they slow down…is usually because a client departed. Now in order to fill the gap, the marketer needs to ramp up marketing again. And it becomes a cycle of creating content, pausing while helping a client, losing a client, back to creating content again.
As the cycle continues the marketer no longer has the desire to create marketing for themselves as it feels like a chore and not a profitable activity.
Sort of like…the cobbler’s kids have no shoes. An old story about a shoe maker who never had time to fix his kids shoes as he was always too busy helping customers.
Over the years, I’ve been called the “the king of content creation”, “the guy who monetized sarcasm” and “Mr SEO”. And I appreciate all those titles.
But the most important reason I continue to create lots of content is to become better, faster and stronger at my trade. I create lots of content every single day. And not just emails; but also blog & magazine articles, website copy, ads for PPC, posts for social media and on-page and off-page search engine optimization.
My goal is to make sure that each and every client I help has a continuous flow of content to share to their fans, friends and followers across various digital platforms. And that my own company never goes through a cycle of pausing content. We are a marketing company…and that means we must use our marketing as a beacon to show others the way.
Seriously if you’re looking for marketing help isn’t it logical to go to someone who practices what they preach.
