Hey Rob, two years ago you quoted me a price to write my book, well I’m ready now.

Me: Okay, but in those two years my prices have gone up several times due to demand and frankly I haven’t heard a peep from you in that time.

Caller: So you won’t honor the price you quoted?

Me: When I give a quote its valid for no more than 45 days, if you take action, great, you get the service at that price. If you don’t, well you don’t.

Caller: But I’m ready now.

Me: Oh, are you now…

Caller:Yes.

Me: You ready to pay my current rates and get started this week?

Caller: Well, what are your current rates?

{I give them my current rates}

Caller:Hmm, well.

Me: I’ll take that as…you’re not ready.

Caller: I will need more time.

Me: Well you have 45 days to decide.

Caller: I will need more time than that.

Me: So I suppose I will hear from you again in what…two years?

Caller: Hopefully sooner.

Me: Well the price I quoted is only valid the next 45 days, so the sooner you commit the better.

Caller: I said I need more time.

Me: Take all the time you need, just past 45 days and I can’t guarantee the rate.

Caller: Yes, you said that.

Me: Yes I did.

Caller: Okay, now you’re being condescending.

Me: Am I?

Caller: Yes.

Me: Well, if you gave me a price for services and I waited two years without contact then needed more time because I couldn’t afford the new price I’m sure you would act the same way.

{The caller hung up}

Hmm, what are the chances I’ll help them with their book in 45 days…or heck in 2 years?
