Do you ever look at where your website traffic comes from?

I do…
– When it comes to search – 98.8% comes from Google.

– When it comes to social media – 93.8% comes from Facebook and 3.4% comes from LinkedIn

The average by the way is around 80% Google, 75% Facebook and 10% LinkedIn. So my numbers above tell me that I need to either (1) work on getting traffic from other sources or (2) up the ante so to speak and go all in on those platforms.

Now if I go all in I run the risk if those platforms ever shut down losing everything I’ve established. And if I spread out to other networks I run the risk of spending too much time to gain traffic that doesn’t equate to sales.

Google is the dominant player in the search engine game so making sure your website is optimized and ranking on Google should be a priority. But what about Bing and Yahoo and the other search engines? Well, when was the last time you used those networks? For me, Google is my default go to search engine, I stopped thinking about Bing and Yahoo as reliable search engines long ago.

Now when it comes to social media…the majority of your traffic will most likely come from Facebook then LinkedIn and the maybe Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok or even Snapchat.

For me, Snapchat just doesn’t register anymore as a traffic resource. I just don’t use it. My clients weren’t on it. And the effort I put into it wasn’t worth it.

Oh, but the gurus say you need TikTok and Snapchat to connect with the millennials. That they will be the ones with lots of money in the future. Yeah okay, but they don’t have money now and by the time they do, I will be ready for retirement so I’ll pass.

My clients are connecting with me on the networks I choose to be on. The networks that make sense to me and my business.

How about you?
