Apparently I’m ‘Not Good at Conversations’ Says the Guy Who Never Listened.

With every new LinkedIn connection, I send a short 15-second (yes… fifteen seconds) video. No fluff, no pitch, no funnel, no “book a call with me” nonsense. Just a simple hello and a transcription for those who don’t want to watch it.

Some people appreciate the genuine, no-strings-attached approach.

And others?

Well… they tend to show their true colors very quickly.

What follows is one of those conversations.

Rob: Hey Michal,
I recorded a quick 15 second video
…don’t worry I’m not pitching anything.
(I so dislike those people too)
Just wanted to introduce myself and wish you well.

FYI: the transcript to my 15 second video is…
“Hi, this is Rob Anspach and I want to say thanks for the connection.
I appreciate you and look forward to having an awesome conversation with you.
Have a great day.”

Michal: Curious, Rob — how much business do you close from this approach per month on average?

Rob: I only accept on average one new client a month. And I’m very particular about who they are and what they do. So for me, this video approach isn’t a sales tool — it’s a conversation piece. My marketing agency turned 25 years old in January 2026.

Michal: What was your best-ever revenue year, if you don’t mind my asking?

Rob: I don’t measure success by revenue alone. I measure it by the quality of clients, the longevity of relationships, and the results we create. And on that front, every year gets better.

Michal: So you don’t care whether you’re a multi-millionaire or not?

Rob: Nope.

Michal: Interesting. So if I offered you two doors to walk through:

Door 1: Same business as now — linear progress, better client quality, better relationships, the things you value.

Door 2: A $50M-per-year marketing agency working with top people in every industry, a large team of extremely talented people, you’re giving TED talks, and you have a $20M net worth.

Rob: Neither. I’m not in the “choose your fantasy ending” business. I’m in the real-world, legacy-driven, client-selective business. Works pretty well.

Michal: What would you do if someone close to you needed a $700K medical procedure to save their life?

Rob: They already have. I took care of it.

Michal: You’re a good man.

Michal: By the way — you’re not that great at this “conversation” thing you allegedly wanted to trigger with your video. Throughout this chat, you haven’t asked me a single thing about me. You don’t seem to be very curious about the people you connect with.

Rob: I’ve been around long enough to know when someone is about to pitch me versus when someone is genuine in their approach. So no, this wasn’t a conversation… it was you trying to sell me on whatever it is you do.

Michal: Nope. People like you don’t buy from me.
We work with people who want to get rich.
I just have a deep-seated curiosity about people who don’t care about money.

Rob: Rich is temporary. I build legacies.

Michal: So do I. But unlike you, I include wealth in my legacy I will pass down to my children.

Rob: We have different approaches.

Michal: Legacy must include wealth.

Rob: I’ve written books on Legacy and Multi-Generational Wealth, and people confuse legacy with wealth because defining legacy any other way forces them to confront what they haven’t built. And that’s uncomfortable. Legacy… the real kind…becomes culture.
It becomes the blueprint future generations follow.

Bottom line:

Families with true legacy… the Hersheys, the Disneys, the people who changed the world… left valuesvisions, and principles long before they left money.
