Here’s 10 Reasons Why You Still Have to Do the Work

Look, I use AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude… and they’re amazing at saving time, brainstorming, and making me look like I type 200 words a minute.

But if you think AI is going to magically grow your business while you sip margaritas in Key West, you’re in for a rude, rum-soaked awakening.

Here’s what AI still can’t do:

  1. Build real relationships – AI can write “Dear FirstName” all day long, but it can’t look someone in the eye, shake their hand, and earn their trust.
  2. Replace lived experience – No algorithm can replace 30 years of being in the trenches, making mistakes, and learning from them.
  3. Read the room – It doesn’t know when to shut up, when to push harder, or when to walk away.
  4. Feel your pain – AI can “simulate empathy” but it’s never laid awake at 3am wondering if payroll will clear.
  5. Lead by example – You still have to show up, deliver, and be the authority you claim to be.
  6. Know your unique brand voice – Unless you train it relentlessly, it’ll spit out content that sounds like 10,000 other businesses.
  7. See the big picture – AI can get stuck in the weeds. You’re the one who needs to set the strategy, not just crank out the tactics.
  8. Make judgment calls under pressure – The kind of gut decisions you make when things hit the fan aren’t something AI can replicate.
  9. Earn referrals and repeat business – AI can write “thank you” emails, but it can’t create the kind of WOW moments people talk about.
  10. Care – At the end of the day, AI doesn’t care if you succeed or fail. That’s on you.

AI is a tool.

A powerful one.

But a hammer doesn’t build a house—you do.

Use it, but don’t think for a second it replaces you.
